When I start fluxbox using startx, and I exit the window manager, I can return to the command line mode. If I start KDE with KDM or Gnome with GDM, I can't seem to get back the command line without rebooting? Is there a way? |

Try shutting down the X-Server with [CTRL] + [ALT] + [BackSpace] or switch to another terminal with [CTRL] + [ALT] + [Fx]. Fx could be a number from F1 to F7.
F1 is the boot terminal and F7 is the graphical Terminal (when X is loaded for example) _________________ managing a server running gentoo... |

You can start KDE and Gnome without KDM or GDM
eg
$ export XSESSION="kde.3.2.0"
$ startx _________________ Cheers

# /etc/init.d/xdm stop
will shut down xdm. If kdm is called by the xdm script (like gdm) this will work. If it has it's own script you'll probably need to type kdm instead of xdm. |
