kmplayer --> black sreen

Strange problem :

When I try to play an .avi file with kmplayer, it most often doesn't give any image. Sound is ok. That's odd because mplayer works perfectly.
In kmplayer, I tried all outputs codecs. Same result.

Any idea ?

I had the black screen thing happening to me all of sudden too since I started using 2.6.3 kernel. I can't say for sure it changed with the kernel, but I finally got it working again by setting the audio driver under general options to "Analog Real-Time Synthesizer" (KMPlayer Preferences). It was just sitting there doing nothing with kmplayer, and the mplayer-plugin wasn't working either till I did this. I've been having the much talked about alsa-2.6.3 mystery problems too but have them mostly resolved except for the sound not "sounding" that good (cracks, pops, hiss, etc). Have you tried setting the playback option to use Xine (if you have it)?? That was a solution I think to a problem I had a month or so ago with certain video formats.
