i installed the 2.6.1 kernel. after the boot everything seemed fine...but it's not. not one CLI emulation program would work, not konsole, not gnome-terminal, nor even xterm! they all freeze after launching and as it seems the cursor stay on a blank line, without showing "bash#" or something like that, whatever!
the other problem i think is related to this...when i launch under a normal user an application but with the super user. it tells me that the "su" program can't be found, and to check my path...?! wtf?
in vte1 or whatever everything works...but under gnome, kde or any other desktop environment this get blown to pieces...i'm really desperate!!!!! :( if somebody has had this problem and has solved it...pleeeease! :(

you probably have to update your PATH variable... that should have been done automatically for you but you can try
Code:
# PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:
/usr/X11R6/bin:/opt/bin:/usr/kde/3.2/bin

You need to add all the directory's that hold binary's to the PATH variable...

ok, so it's X that is the problem? Is it just the terminal emulation programs that don't work or is it everything? Do you get anything more specific, error message wise, other then just crashes?

I assume that the user trying to use su is a member of the wheel group?

Since when did you need to be part of the wheel group to execute su???
Any user can use it, that's the whole point! :)
