After getting 3D support in my Gentoo install, I want to get it in my Slackware9.1 install.

They're installed, but no 3D support yet.

Here is my XF86Config:

You have to comment ou the entire "vesa".

Code:

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "Standard VGA"
    VendorName  "Unknown"
    BoardName   "Unknown"
    Driver      "vesa"
EndSection

once you comment that out, should have some different results. Your ATI device sec. can't really do anything till yuo get rid of the block above.

Peace,

Okay, next step:

Code:
# cd /usr/src/linux
# grep -e "DRM" .config

If you could cut/paste or decipher what you see that would help figure this out.

think you just answered your own question. Goto the kernel and check it off :-)

Why not use the same configs for gentoo and slackware? They both will run with the same X config file...

You could also use your gentoo kernel config and sources, unless you use genkernel. I dunno if you can use genkernel under slackware, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did work. Not that it's all that great anyway.

Just build it in and install that kernel, as well if there is any entry for your ATI card in the menuconfig.

You shouldn't be getting any issues after that.

Good luck.

That is my Gentoo XF86Config, it doesn't work in Slack.

I find that odd. It must be a driver problem. Sorry, I have an nVidia card...

Is it a different version of X? Your XConfig file should be pretty standard. Maybe trying changing the driver in XF86Config to ati instead of radeon?

Check that you have the kernel AGP module(s) loaded. The ENODEV error means it can't find your AGP chipset for some reason.

Are you using hotplug under Slackware? If so, it really should detect AGP on bootup.

Also, and I know this may not be an issue for ATi cards, try taking out the dri module. nVidia requires only the GLX module.

If all else fails, just configure it the old fashioned way -- xf86config
