I just got finished setting up X to load the GLX and DRI modules, and the journey was a success. I've installed the appropriate modules for my card (matrox G450) and glxinfo, along with the other utilities mentioned in the DRI manual, return the correct information, showing that all is well.

Yet, when I emerge tuxracer, I get the following messages before the emerge fails:

Code:

checking for GL library... no
checking for GL library (with pthreads)... no
checking for MesaGL library... no
checking for MesaGL library (with pthreads)... no
checking for opengl32 library... no
checking for opengl32 library (with pthreads)... no
*** Hmm, you don't seem to have OpenGL libraries installed in the standard
*** location (/usr/lib).  I'll check in /usr/X11R6/lib, since
*** many distributions (incorrectly) put OpenGL libs there.

checking for GL library (with pthreads)... no
checking for MesaGL library... no
checking for MesaGL library (with pthreads)... no
checking for opengl32 library... no
checking for opengl32 library (with pthreads)... no
configure: error: Cannot find GL library

I've run opengl-update xfree with success, and X starts just fine (with the GLX and DRI modules loaded...)

What's going on here?

Just curious, but do you have opengl in your USE vars?
Can you try to emerge another opengl based game? and / or install any other opengl based game?

I don't have experience with matrox cards, so I am of little help, sorry.

Does anything opengl related come up when you do emerge -p tuxracer?

open-gl is in my make.conf file. Edit: Typo. My USE statement contains "opengl"...not "open-gl".

Is there anything I can emerge -s to see that I have all the installed Open-GL things? It seems like tuxracer fails even before the compile, because it can't find opengl..

...but doesnt the fact Xfree is starting with GLX and DRI imply I have OpenGL installed and functioning?

I have "opengl" in mine, not sure if it would matter though. I am not sure if just having glx and dri enabled is enough, cause I think your prob is more that you don't have a glx library installed. Does your xfree file "Load DRI" and "Load GLX"?

i am not sure if there is anyway to find out if this all went to plan / what errors you got. I am not exactly an X guru.

Sorry I can't help more.

Andrew

squanto: My X configuration file does indeed load GLX and DRI.

I've verified these are present by running the diagnostic programs suggested in the DRI Manual.

How can I check the existence of the GLX library?

To tell you the truth, I have no idea. I use GeForce3 card, and Nvidia does all the important stuff in the drivers.
Any ATI / Matrox users out there that could be of assistance?

Sorry,
Andrew

No, thanks for your help! Every little bit helps especially for someone who's just now learning this stuff :-)

Anybody else know how I can make emerges aware of OpenGL?
