i am more puzzled by this then trying to connect to it , since is not part of my WLAN , but there it goes

I've never seen that before.

What's more, I cannot force a blank ESSID into my AP! Maybe it's pre 802.11 standard as they used Nick's instead of ESSID's.

my card does not cuppport WPA or WPA-PSK , so i dont know how the cell looks when using one

they're probably just cloaking the essid for the AP. if you want to connect to it try using

iwconfig <device> ap <apaddress>

that might work
