Problem adding subscribers with ezmlm-idx-mysql

I created a mailing list using qmailadmin and verified that the proper directories were created. I used the ezmlm-mktab command to generate the tables and created them in mysql. However when I try to subscribe someone via the ezmlm-sub command it returns with access denied to the database. I checked and rechecked the perms on the database, even deleting and recreating the database, tables and user. Any suggestions or known problems with this?
