I've tried this with both the 1.4 release and the 2004.0 release and the same thing happens - I put the live-cd in, it boots up I select the kernel, and then the install freezes - nothing happens.... I would appreciate any help...
BTW - I have an AlienwarePC with:
A P4 2.53 - 533
512 RAM - 333
INTEL 875 motherboard
Built in etho
2 Seagate 80G SATA 150 drives (no raid)
1 partitioned with windows xp
The other completely empty
There's no error message so I have no idea what the problem is -- all I can do is restart to abort, take out the cd and boot windows. =/ Also, I would like to have the 2.6 kernel - to support my 2 SATA drives - I have no IDE drives so I have to put Gentoo there. _________________ ^ cut along the line ^ |

I just tried again with the 1.4 (reg and smp) and the 2004.0 - In the reg and the 2004.0 the instal stops at "...hde..." - again theres no error it just stops. In the smp install on 1.4 I get passed that- but it stops at "initilizing usb..." - Unless I'm not waiting long enough to let that finsih, I don't know - Again I would appreciate help... _________________ ^ cut along the line ^

With SATA drives, I have noticed that the normal kernel takes too long too boot - try pressing Alt-F2 at the progress bar to see messages. However, using the smp kernel did solve the problem. |
