ho appena finito di installare uno dei piu famosi emulatori (gxmame)
ma al momento dell'avvio della room mi viene restituito il segente errore:

stai usando gl-mame (mame compilato con le open-gl)?
Hai confiigurato correttamente xfree (soprattutto il 3D)?

Ci sono vari eseguibili per xmame:
xmame.SDL
xmame.x11
xmame
xmame.svgalib
xmame.xgl

uno di questi dovrebbe andare, comunque io ti consiglio una gui, e' molto piu' semplice e facilmente configurabile.

ad esempio io uso gxmame

Io usavo MAME sotto windows e downloadavo le rom da www.mame.dk, adesso volendo usarlo sotto Gentoo sapete dove si possono recuperare ste benedette rom dopo che mame.dk ha chiuso???

Che scheda video hai? se hai una Nvidia hai scaricato i driver proprietari e modificato il file XF86config? Magari guarda qui:

io infatti uso gxmame, poi per quanto rigurada la scheda video, ho un hercules 3d prophet 4500 tv/out con chipset kyro, e per quanto riguarda l'xfree, non sono mai riuscito a far andare i driver giusti :(

si si :D se spieagasse pure come si fa per installarli pero non sarebbe male.. purtroppo in gentoo si da importanza solo all'hardware difficile da installare, ci sono migliaglia di guide che spiegano come installare la nvidia in tutte le salse e in tutte le lingue, mentre per la kyro ti dicono solo che va messa come driver nell'xf86config nella sezione scheda video. e logicamente, al momento dell'avio dell'xfreee (come normale che sia) non parte. forse voi, nel mio caso, risolvereste il problema in 3 nanosecondi, ma io purtroppo non ho tanta iniziativa e come vedo un'errore purtroppo mi blocco e non so come andare avanti :(
ecco praticamente l'errore di quell'ebuild:

Dovresti postare qualche riga in più dell'output della compilazione perchè qualcuno ti possa essere d'aiuto.

Se non hai bisogno di accelerazione 3d puoi usare anche i driver VESA, ma visto che esistono questi driver perchè non provarli? ;) (tra l'altro quelli presenti in portage non sono i più recenti)

Non ho mai avuto alcuna esperienza con questo tipo di chip/driver, ma non dovrebbe essere troppo diverso dal configurare X per usare altri driver DRI.

in /usr/src/ ho 2 cartelle, una linux e una linux-2.6.1
ma visto che al momento dell'installazione ho compilato da /usr/src/linux... penso proprio di si.
se non dovesse essere come credo, come faccio a cambiare la path di destinazione?

mmh... mi sa che il file che cerca è presente solo nei kernel 2.4.x, quindi non puoi compilare il driver per 2.6.x. La doc dei driver dice nulla a riguardo? Magari la nuova versione scaricata da powervr.com compila anche con kernel della serie 2.6.x.

sinceramente non ci sto capendo piu niente... quando avevo il 2.4 mi avevano detto che per quei driver dovevo aspettare il nuovo kernel, esce il 2.6, lo installo e tutto.... e poi mi dicono che qui driver sono per la serie 2.4*
ma solo io ho questi problemi? (ditemi di no)...........

allora, ho messo il vanilla-sources, ho emerso i driver, ma non funzionava, poi sono andato sul sito ufficilale e ho scaricato le sorgenti. il problema dell'emerge era proprio quello che dicevi tu:

avendo il doppio kernel, 2.6* e 2.4* l'emerge andava un po in panico, invece dalla sorgente ho specificato in quale cartella stava il kernel giusto. dopo di ciò ho riconfigurato l'xfree ed ho messo in modules.autoload il modulo "powervr"
ho riavviato e adesso tutto funziona alla grande :D

Ti conviene collegarti a tutti i server, poi le rom te le passo volentieri, di solito ci sono la sera poi dipende dai giorni. Alla peggi mi chiami in pvt. ciao
