I installed postfix, courier-imap and squirrelmail and all is working great. I am building a new Gentoo server and want to transfer all my existing email from the old server to the new server. What is the easiest way to do this? There isn't a maildir directory under the /home/user and I can't find any mail in the /var/spool/postfix directory. By the way I used the instructions in the desktop guide to install all of the above. I'm fairly new to Gentoo and Linux....so sorry if this is a lame question. Thanks.

If you followed the directions, the maildir should have been created the first time you ran mutt. If you are super newbie, you may not realize that directories starting with a '.' (ie .maildir) aren't visible with 'ls". As far as getting the old email into your newmaildir, got me. Chances are the old are in mbox format. Least that was what most of my previous distro's seemed to like. Maybe there is a mbox->maildir converter. Don't know and too lazy to look.

If your old mail is in mailbox format and you want to move to maildir format check out: http://www.firstpr.com.au/web-mail/mb2md/
