|
|
When I try to boot the system I receive the kernel panic messsage "unable to mount root fs.."I ve followed accuratly the installation guide,I got the gentoo-dev-sources,kernel 2.6.3-gentoo-r1.The point is ,my lilo has this configuration
boot=/dev/hda1
prompt
delay=50
default=gentoo
vga=795
image=/boot/kernel-2.6.3
label=gentoo
read-only
root=/dev/hda3
append="acpi=off"
--when I ve tried to--sorry my keyboard is not configured--give /sbin/lilo -v
the result been
Warning: LBA32 addressing assumed
Reading boot sector from /dev/hda1
Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not match '/dev' directory structure.
Name change: '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc' -> '/dev/hda'
The kernel was compiled with DEVFS_FS, but 'devfs=mount' was omitted
as a kernel command-line boot parameter; hence, the '/dev' directory
structure does not reflect DEVFS_FS device names.
Name change: '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1' -> '/dev/hda1'
Name change: '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part2' -> '/dev/hda2'
Name change: '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3' -> '/dev/hda3'
Using MENU secondary loader
Calling map_insert_data
Boot image: /boot/kernel-2.6.3
Added gentoo *
Writing boot sector.
/boot/boot.0301 exists - no boot sector backup copy made.
Now,wht can i do,i need my linuxbox working,please help me!!

I do not know a bit about lilo (I use grub myself), but it sounds like you have not compiled support for your file system into the kernel
For example, if you have ReiserFS (like me) you should have ReiserFS support compile DIRECTLY into the kernel (NOT as modules). |

This doesn't look like a FS problem to me. FS support not compiled into the kernel generally results in a kernel panic when it's time to mount root. |

Tabriz, you are right. But where did paperp mention, that the error does not occurs at mount time?
Otherwise, the problem seems to be there although FS support is there.
Maybe try to enable the "mount at boot" (or something like that) function of the "dev file system" in the kernel. |
