Now we shouldn't go and act rash now... I'm pretty happy with my reputation as "the guy who wrote the floppy installation howto", and the associated accolades.
As far as the moderators in the top ten issue... Frankly, I think the list would be more interesting without the moderators in there, but OTOH, the top 10 list isn't exactly that useful to begin with (other than entertainment value). There's still the Memberlist which can be sorted by number of posts or other ways.
Actually, I think it would be cool if really frequent posters gained 0wn3rship of avatars. It always throws me for a loop when I see a post with a familiar avatar of a frequent poster only to have it turn out to be a post by some n00b who picked it out of the gallery 5 minutes prior. I'm sure that's beyond the capability of phpBB, but it would do wonders for the organization of my neurons. Ok, ignore me I'm rambling. _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. Hence the difficulty of forcing anything into an empty head."

Another reason I no longer use an avatar. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I don't think people are re-using avatars out of malice or just "stealing" them (since it's both pointless and counterproductive to steal an avatar), I just think they see them in the gallery and go "Oh, that one's cool, I'll use that", not realizing that there are 400 people using Dr. Evil. I guess that's where you're coming from about people making their own avatars.
I was thinking of making a complete set of SCII avatars - anybody wanna call dibs on particular races? _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. Hence the difficulty of forcing anything into an empty head."

I wasn't trying to imply that anyone was doing it maliciously. As bad as Trolls are, I can't imagine someone being that pathetic. I was just thinking, if 'ownership' were implemented, nothing would really prevent the use of the same avatar.
What is SCII? For some reason, I think I should know that already.
Out of curiosity, I did a reverse post-count lookup. As of a few moments ago, 999 users have 0 posts. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Split from here.

I totally agree. It's especially weird when you have two Homer Simpsons and three Dr. Evils in the same thread.
We lost a Dr. Evil and gained a Chef in this thread. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Well, if you don't recognize it from my Avatar and my .sig, you probably aren't sufficiently Old Skool(tm). Actually, I've only had one person comment on recognizing my Avatar, so maybe there isn't a market... _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. There goes the big secret! Your post reminded me to check the latest news on that page. I had read the nebulous whispers there about a re-release not that long ago, but it looks like it's really taken off since last I checked - there's even a sourceforge page now! For those who aren't in the know, the best videogame EVER FRICKIN MADE (dispite being nearly 10 years old), is going to be ported to Modern OSes (all of them from the looks of it) and released under the GPL. Unless it's some kind of cruel joke, it looks like Open Source is about to get its first really great game.
Sorry about the rambling nonsensicalness, but...

Ah, OK. A friend of mine had that game. That's why I recognized it. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

No one has my avatar, and I would have thought that it would be fairly popular. Atleast I have not seen anyone with it.
Not that I am all the great, but I like tux, he is cool!
I remember when you could distinguish ppl by their avatar, and then someone would come in with the same avatar and post, and contradict the person who had the av first, and I would get all confused. I am reminiscing now, wow. |

Why don't you just use the avatar masking feature of phpBB? Just go into your profile and look for the "Avatar Control Panel" section. There's only one checkbox in that entire section -- check that and hit submit. That way, nobody can ever use the avatar that you have selected.

The only checkbox I see is 'Delete Image'. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I wonder how you would taste fried in butter.
Stop bobbing your head like that. We VUX do not share this range of motion and it makes it look as if your neck is broken and you are a jabbering corpse... *
I recognised your Avatar, and the signatures, and quietly admired both! I did manage to finish SCII, but I had to Cheeze a bit and use auto-combat ( because I was young and still developing fingers ).
A few years back, I picked up a copy of SC and SCII: TUM on CD-Rom... wish I could find it now, it was a truly excellent adventure. If you were going to make some SCII Avatars, I wouldn't want to replace my custom, but what if you made some web buttons?
I would love an Orz button with "*camper!*" on it.
Hey, btw, the pages of Now and Forever are looking really good these days! http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/

* I don't actually recall ever seeing this in the game, but it's on a quotes page.
