yes i know i created the same thread in installing gentoo but i think i made a mistake :)

i did emerge kde but i dont know how to start it- when i type startx, x loads i got a cursor an xterm and sth like a gui but no kde. In rc.conf i have XSESSION="kde-3.2"
and DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm" ->wasnt sure about that
as i have an x enviroment this cant be gfx card related can be?
any ideas?

i tried startkde and i got i wierd kde
i meanit seams like kde is in a window of the previous x gui
and all the windows of kde are windows of the x gui with this ugly green theme

it should be XSESSION="kde-3.2.0"

you can also change your display manager from xdm to kdm
this will start the kde session manager at boot

If you add the xdm wrapper thing to default runlevel (rc-update add xdm default).
