hey, I first started using a 'real' distro when Redhat 6.2 (before that I was trying out crappy UMSDOS-based distros), then with a suggestion from a friend, I moved to SuSE 6.4, I loved it, then got 7.0 - 7.3 and just resently, before SuSE 8.0 came out in the US, I got a copy of the first cd of the German version from a another friend on the internet. Had 8.0 for a few days, cd1 didn't even have GCC! So I felt trapped inside, not able to do much at all. I've heard of Gentoo, just being that I was happy with SuSE, I nerver made the change. I don't think I'll ever go back, its fast, and it includes something I've always loved in the BSD world, a ports tree (I setup a OpenBSD router/firewall/print server/ftp server/samba server for my home network, ) I was considering running FreeBSD as a desktop system, but then, I wouldn't be able to play the Linux games I have like UT, Q3, & Tribes 2
So, thanks guys, you have yet another convertee. |
