The current development version of phpMyAdmin is v2.5.6-rc2 and i would like to install it using emerge. currently emerge sync shows v2.5.6-rc1 as the latest but the new rc2 fixes some problems i am encountering.

so my question is how can i get an ebuild of this latest version?

if there isn't any newer ebuild the only possibility is to write a new one by yourself. normally that's not that difficult, sometimes it's enough to change the name of the ebuild according to the new version-number. if you do that don't forget to publicate your new ebuild at https://bugs.gentoo.org, so the developers can check it into the portage-tree.

ok, i looked around the ebuild files and made a new digest containing the md5 checksum and size info and now 'emerge -pv phpmyadmin' reports the following:

Code:

# emerge -pv phpmyadmin

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild     U ] dev-db/phpmyadmin-2.5.6_rc2 [2.5.6_rc1]  1,804 kB

Total size of downloads: 1,804 kB

so it sounds like it will work, however i notice that it says [2.5.6_rc1] which im not sure why that is?

these files got bumped:
files/config.inc.php-2.5.6_rc1.patch, files/mysql-setup.sql.in-2.5.6_rc1

so hopefully there was nothing new needed though these files do not specify anything out of the general configuration.

now how do i submit this ebuild to bugs?

thanks!

Don't worry about that, it's just showing you the version you have installed currently. The version to the left of that is the version you'd be upgrading to when you run the emerge.

Just go to https://bugs.gentoo.org, create a bug report and add the ebuild + any patches as attachments.

go to http://www.bugs.gentoo.org and follow the links. it's quite straight-forward. perhaps you have to create an account.
