I just reinstalled my system from scratch, this time using the default-x86-2004.0 profile instead of hardened-x86-2004.0 and xorg-x11 works just fine.

I have the exact same error, and I am not using the hardened sources, I am using bog standard ones. I just nuked my X11 directories and am trying again, if not, I'm not try that hardened-gcc -r command and see if that makes any difference.

Using the 2.6.5 kernel, with gcc3.3.3 :(

hardened-gcc -r worked a treat. x.org is now up and running.

hardened-gcc -A to get it back to default.

I also had that problem, with my hardened-x86-2004.0 profile, and then i compiled xfree-4.3.0-r6 after doing:
hardened-gcc -r

and then it worked like a charm :)

PS: Using kernel 2.6.5 & glibc2.3.3(with nptl) & gcc-3.3.3

see https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=160841&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=hardened.

I was having exactly the same problem with hardened gcc & glibc and no matter what I did, I couldn't get things to work.

the CFLAGS I mention in the above post were out of sheer desperation, I haven't seen any documentation for them anywhere, but they worked.

I believe the biggest problem is that xfree/Xorg code is old, and it's now beginning to show.
