I can't figure this one out. I can mount it and reach it as su but not as regular user. When I try to change the permissions of the /mnt/windows folder it tells me it can't because it is read only. I'm only trying to set it for read, not write.

Code:
# chmod a=r /mnt/windows/
chmod: changing permissions of `/mnt/windows/': Read-only file system

And my line for it in /etc/fstab

Code:
/dev/hda4               /mnt/windows    ntfs            noatime                 0 0

Quick question... I was looking at the man pages but what does the
Code:
umask=0000
mean? I know it sets permissions in octal. Why 0000 as opposed to another number? Thanks in advance.

actually, i think that umask is reducted form the default system permission.
for example 644 with umask=0122 would become 522, if i understand correctly. btw, i had the same problem once, and it took me the whole weekend to find out. :) no problem 8)
