Since I switched to gentoo (mdk before), I've never been able to get display power management to work. The display stays on all the time, whether I use screen saver or not.
I currently use KDE 3.2.0 with kernel 2.6.3-gentoo-r1, but it was the same with kernel 2.4.20, 2.4.22 and kd1 3.1.4 or 3.1.5
I specifically compiled ACPI source code in my current kernel, even though I believe it's useful for laptops only. Is there any other option I should enable in the kernel ?
Here is the result of xset q (DPMS section)
Code: | DPMS (Energy Star):
Standby: 600 Suspend: 1200 Off: 3600
DPMS is Enabled
Monitor is On

works here..
did you put the dpms option in /etc/X11/XF86Config as shown below?
Code: | Section "Monitor"
Identifier "monitor"
HorizSync 30-96
VertRefresh 50-160
Option "DPMS"
EndSection |

Thanks a lot. The Option "DPMS" did the trick. I was messing around with dpms for quite some time in the past. Now I finally got it working. Thanks again!!! |

Thanks dippen, the option did the trick. Works like a charm now.
It took me a while to decide to reboot my machine since I could not figure a way to restart kdm to see if it worked. Another problem, for next time... |

Thanks dippen, that also did the trick here. Since XFCE4 turned off my monitor without me changing anything, I just figured I had something wrong in my KDE setup. Thanks again.
Cheers. _________________ malone |
