Hello

My notebook (maxdata 7100, p4-m, gf2go, ali m54xx-chipset) does not power off since I upgraded to kernel 2.6.1 and newer (currently 2.6.3 gentoo-dev-sources). It worked with 2.6.0 and 2.4.xx
ACPI is compiled into the kernel, acpid is running and other acpi-features (battery status etc) work.

Any ideas?

try modifying your boot parameters in grub or lilo to include:
Code:
apm=power-off

hope it works.

have you compiled your kernel with local APIC (caution : not ACPI but APIC) on uniprocessor?

If so turn it off and retry. this has worked for many laptops

I already tried that, without a result.
But a few minutes ago I upgraded to gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.4 and... tada, it finally powers down again! wooooooooooohooooooooooo!

Well, let's fix the next problem ;)
