|
|
I have noticed that emerge rsync has been takeing much longer recently (past day or two) compared with last week, it now takes a few minutes where as last week I could have it completed in under a minute.
Is the tree getting that much bigger? or would this just be cause ibiblio / gentoo is just getting much more network traffic?
It isn't that big of a deal, but I am curious anyways.
Thanks,
-Andrew |

I would say that it is both probably, the ebuild list is 1600+ packages and ibiblio gets hit hard daily by us gentoo users and all the other distro's they mirror for. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

I notice it's slow whenever there is a new portage to be upgraded. Current version is 1.9.5 something. The portage upgrade from 1.9.3 to 1.9.5 just a few days. When portage needs upgrade, python build also need upgrade (recompiled). Otherwise, it does not take much time. |

I updated portage, and then emerged gentoolkit like some others suggested on the BB, and then picked the wrong choice for which make.conf I wanted to keep. So I threw in some new use vars and set that back up and now emerge rsync seems to go faster.
Thanks! |

There are a couple other possibilities. Daniel runs QoS on cvs.gentoo.org (the main rsync server), so he can limit how much bandwidth each connection gets. I think he has been tweaking with this since the server upgrade, and that might be what you are seeing. He has also started load-balancing between several different servers, all of which probably provide different bandwidths, which could also cause what you are seeing. _________________ Chad |
