i started installing gentoo from my original distro (madrake) and when it was needed i mounted partitions, /proc, /dev and chrooted, env-update, source /etc/profile... and so on.
went through bootstraping, emerged system, compiled kernel and succesfuly booted gentoo.
can i go on with my emefges (of X, kde, mozilla...) from chrooted environment (after mounting all needed stuf and env-update...) just as i did "emerge system" and "emerge sources-getnoo" or i HAVE TO do that from getnoo?
i'm asking this because i can not do anything in my gentoo yet, and in mandrake i can surf and do all other things while emerging software for gentoo...

mandrake has nothing to do with that partition - it resides in /mnt/gentoo and only access is made by chrooted console. mandrak is fully operational and emerging X and KDE is done in background while i'm able to do everyday work. if i emerge from newly installed gentoo, i wouldn't be able to do anything meanwhile because there's no X and no KDE at all... |
