So I'm installing with networking, no GRP, Stage 3, using Genkernel. However, when making my grub.conf file, I have no idea what the actual name of my kernel is. I chose the 2.6 "gentoo-dev-sources."
Does anybody know what this named, or more importantly, where I should look to find it? Thanks... |

hehe...
Well, I've never used genkernel so I don't know the default name the kernel is saved as in /boot. Anways, simply boot with the live cd and mount your /boot partition and cd into it. Then list contents. I think it names it kernel-<version> but am unsure.
HTH. |

I'm kinda in the middle of the install right now... which makes me leery of rebooting to solve the problem... perhaps I should look in the /mnt/gentoo/boot... hmm.
EDIT: Okay, since I chrooted, the mnt/gentoo idea is not gonna work. Additionally, using genkernel shouldn't affect this at all (unless my brain has exploded...) All the gentoo-dev-sources kernel should have the same name, right? |

Oh. Yea. I didn't realize you were in the middle of the install. You should be chrooted so just cd /boot... |

yeah all i'm seeing is a boot folder, a grub folder, and a lost+found folder
apparently the boot folder just continues ad infinitum, the lost and found is empty, and the grub folder doesn't have any kernel info (to my knowledge)
perhaps i can find this one nugget of info online somewhere? like do the names follow any specific pattern, or is there an archive somewhere? final idea, is there some log on my machine that i could check out
thanks for the help |
