hi,
i feel a bit embarrassed because that's such a basic question, but i have some error during the boot-process and can't copy/paste it, because i don't know where the output is logged (it is, isn't it?)
dmesg only gives me the kernel-messages. the error-message i need to have a look at comes after "entering runlevel 3" - so the init-process is already running. it's not in the dmesg-output.
when i login on console 1, i can only scroll up (using shift-PgUp) to the line that was visible when nobody was logged in. and not higher.
i'm using a framebuffer (does that make a difference?)
thx in advance. |

AFAIK the framebuffer limits scrolling sometimes, and sometimes it makes it impossible. Maybe try to boot without the vga setting and see if you can scroll now.
The boot is not logged. Well actually not until you set that up. I sometimes miss the boot.msg i had when using SuSE. But not that much it motivated me to get that working with gentoo. |

*Sigh*, No, Gentoo doesn't capture the information at all.
