Okay. I've followed the Gentoo Printing guide, and printing works just fine on my HP DeskJet 3550, albeit TERRIBLY SLOW relative to windows. Like one page every couple minutes (or more). I've checked linuxprinting.org, and they recommend I use the hpijs printer driver (which I am). Printing remains slow.
I've Googled/Searched the forums and noticed some people reference postscript as the reason for this slowness (I can't imagine why it would be slow on an Athlon 2200+...but whatever). Frankly, I give a goddamn about postscript, as the majority of my printing is research papers and lab reports. I'd be just as happy using whatever featureless method of printing windows uses, so long as it doesn't take 2+ hours.
Anyone know how to fix it up so printing is a tad more snappier in linux? Or is this purely a driver issue that I have no hope of using? Any help would be *extremely appreciated* Thanks!
(In the time it took to write this post, I printed out 10x as many papers in Windows than would have been printed in linux. *hangs his head in shame*) |
