I just got my new board (K8V-Deluxe) with my new AMD 64 a couple of days ago. That board has the onboard VIA82xx chip.
I just compiled into the Kernel the VIA sound (ALSA) chip with OSS emulation.
But I have 2 issues...
- XMMS crashes with seg. faults when I say add director which contains sub-dirs. But if I select a dir. which has no sub-dirs everything works just fine.
Example
Add dir /MP3s/A -> Play List OK, works!
Add dir /MP3s -> Play List Seg. fault
- The biggest issue so far is that the sound stutterst as soon as I get some activity going like changing the window, loading a prog or what so ever.
So I put my old good working EMU10k1 in this System and compiled it into the Kernel (OSS) to see if it was ALSA with the OSS emulation. NOPE still the same sound issue.

does the sound stutter in any other programs other than xmms? I had the same problem (the stuttering) until a few days ago when xmms 1.2.10-r1 came out. Didn't use it long enough with the stuttering to check for crashing.
Checked my emerge log and it looks like I was using 1.2.10 before if that helps at all.
Good Luck |
