nvidia driver can't load /dev/nvidia0

I just installed did emerge nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx, added nvidia to the modules autoload and it does creat /dev/nvidia0 but when i cat it it says input output error. X won't start up, said can't find /dev/nvidia0
What's wrong???

What is the output of /var/log/XFree86.0.log ? any (EE) or (WW)?

EE Failed to initilize the nvidia kernel moduled
aborting

thats it, it says input output error when it trys to probe nvidia0

if you could...let's see the results of

ls -l /dev/nvidia*

also are you trying to startx as root or as a user? does it act differently as root than as user?
