GRP means, that you use prebuild packages for installation instead of sources.
I think the gentoo handbook provides information on using GRP.
You have to start with a gentoo LiveCD set of 2 CDs for P4.
Follow the instructions until the installation of the stage tarball. You have to use stage3.
Afterwards take the portage snapshot from the CD.
Follow on with "Preparing for GRP" and use the "usepkg" option of emerge.
You get everything from the LiveCDs, including kernel-sources, syslogger, bootloader...
After rebooting you can use the second CD for installing the binaries of kde, gnome, whatever. This way you will get your system to work.
Later you may download the sources from a friends pc, burn them on cd and then use them to update your system. _________________ Join the adopt an unanswered post initiative today! |
