Hi all,

just tried to install Gentoo 2004 on my Dual G4 867. Booting process stopped on "mounting /proc filesystems". Just out of curiosity, I removed my GeForce 4MX card and put Radeon 7500 instead, and the booting went flawlessly 8O..
I want to stay with my GeForce, though.:)
Any suggestions ?

What happens if you put back the GeForce and do:

G4-SMP video=ofonly

if that locks could you try?

G4-SMP debug

That's exactly how I booted for the first time (with GeForce). With Radeon i used:
G4-SMP video=radeonfb

After putting back my GeForce booting stops in the same place as before (mounting /proc). I was able to reproduce this effect three times..
Tomorrow I'll try G4-SMP debug

Thanks,

Gato

I've been able to reproduce the problem and reported it to upstream kernel developer benh.

We'll probably stick an extra kernel on the livecd which is known to not have this problem. I'm hoping to see a kernel patch real soon too.
