Salve,
ho letto un po' di post passati alla ricerca di un problema analogo al mio ma non ho trovato nulla... quindi mi sono permesso di scrivere questo messaggio.

Ho installato la distribuzione dal livecd della 1.4, seguendo le istruzioni passo per passo. Su livecd tutto funzionava correttamente, compresa la rete.

Una volta installato il sistema mi sono ritrovato la rete non funzionante, ma in un modo quantomeno bizzarro, ovvero: eth0 e' su, senza errori apparenti, ma non invia o rivece dati, se non quando digito qualcosa sulla tastiera (usb)! In qualche modo parzialmente funziona, in quanto nel log del server dhcp mi trovo tracce di DHCPDISCOVER, DHCPOFFER, DHCPREQUEST ma una volta ottenuto l'ip niente.

La scheda di rete è integrata sulla schema madre gigabyte, ed ho anche provato a disabilitare tutti i dispositivi integrati, come controller usb, schede audio, etc.. senza successo.

Al ping da un'altro host non si riceve risposta... se non quando viene digiato qualcosa, ricevendo in questo caso qualche risposta...

La scheda di rete è una realtek, con il famoso modulo 8139too che il live funziona perfettamente.

Riassumento:
* gentoo 1.4 da livecd
* kernel 2.4.20-gentoo-r6 compilato con genkernel
* sk rete realtek (8139too)

Se avete qualche suggerimento è il benvenuto, ormai mi sono appassionato alla vicenda e vorrei _capire_ cosa succede! :o)

ci pasti un ifconfig un dmesg | grep eth0 e un lsmod :D

vediamo di fare un analisi completa :D [nella speranza di poterti aiutare :roll:]

Ora ho fatto il boot del computer da livecd e con un paio di mount e chroot sto usando l'installazione di gentoo.... qui di seguito allego un grep fatto sul file /var/log/messages che rivela un po' fi informazioni interessanti, come l'impiego del modulo 8139cp, che sembra causare casini! :o)

da questo evinco che la tua scheda di rete dopo il boot non è up.

Toglimi una curiosità, il supporto per la scheda di rete l'hai compilato builtin oppure come modules?

Hai ragione... ho fatto un sacco di prove e mi sa che queta mi e' sguggita.

In effetti eth0 e' down, ma con un sempliece /etc/init.d/net.eth0 start parte come se fosse tutto ok, ma con i problemi che ho descritto.

Il kernel l'ho fatto gestire la genkernel, ma poco fa ho fatto un make menuconfig nella dir dei sorgenti ed ho scoperto che tutti e due i moduli (8139too e 8139cp) sono modules....

cdimage 2.4.20-gentoo-r6 # find . -name '8139*'

./kernel/drivers/net/8139too.o
./kernel/drivers/net/8139cp.o

Non vedo il motivo per cui avrebbe dovuto anche includermi il 'cp' ... potrebbe essere utili compilare a mano il kernel e selezionare solamente 8139too, che dici?

potrebbe essere che, essendo compilato come modulo il supporto alla realtek, tu ti sia dimenticato di inserire 8139too dentro l'autoload dei moduli?
fai un

nano -w /etc/modules.d.autoload/kernel-2.4

e vedi se c'è 8139too
se non c'è aggiungicelo
in alternativa potresti provare dopo che hai fatto partire net.eth0 a dare

Ho provato varie configurazioni del file /etc/modules.d.autoload/kernel-2.4, sia con che senza 8139too, ma in tutti i casi il comportamento è rimasto quello solito.. e anomalo ... :o)

La prossima cosa da fare è ricolpilare a mano il kernel...

All'installazione di gentoo ho avuto lo stesso problema. Ho risolto mettendo nella blacklist il driver 8139cp. Dopo di che tutto ok.

eth0 andava up con 8139too e poi down con 8139cp. Ci sono vari post su questo argomento e forse pure una malf ... non ricordo bene.

Lo potra' sempre fare.... intanto si vede se e' quello il problema. Se e' quello alla prima occasione di... lo potra' togliere....

Finalmente vi posso presentare delle buone notizie! :o)

Funziona... sto indagado per capire esattamente _che cosa_ ha fatto il 'miracolo', perchè non è stato uno singolo intervento a rimettere in funzione la mia bella interfaccia di rete...

Vi posto ulteriori informazioni notizie, se saranno degne di un qualche rilievo, ma non voglio lasciarmi sfuggire l'occasione per ringraziarvi, tutti per la gentilezza, e la cura dei vostri suggerimenti... per non parlare dei tempi di risposta... NULLI!!! :o) Mi avete laciato con la bocca aperta!
