|
|
Well I installed a Gentoo system onto a server last year, and was so impressed, that I decided to stick 2004.0 onto my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8200), unfortunatly, the Wireless NIC card is not supported by Gentoo (there is a linux driver however ax100.sf.net), so I have to do a "offline" install.
I downloaded the following CD's
install-x86-minimal-2004.0.iso
packages-pentium4-2004.0.iso
And tried to install. I then realised that when it came to install the stage 3 packages, I had none, so I looked at the docs. Apparently, I need a bootable CD, with the packages on them. None of the sites have such a beast. So I am now stuck with 2 Gentoo CD's which cannot be installed.
Help.... |

install-x86-universal-2004.0.iso should have everything you need.
P.S.: Not all the mirrors update at the same time, plus they are experiencing some technical problems with their mirroring system. Hunt around and you will find the files you require. |

i have the same problem as mgillespie too. There are stuff that are located in the packages cd, how do i grap them when i am emerging with my universal cd? I tried to circumvent it by installing a bare slackware and then cp all the packages into the slack' s /home. When i have done setting up universal cd, i tried to cp the packages from /home, well, no luck there. Anyone have any idea how these 2 cd set up works? 1.4 is truely self contained with the cd1 liveCD, all the stuff requirred are there, but 2004.0, i couldn't even get genkernel and gentoo-sources emerged.
Please help me! |

Here's from the 2004.0 readme:
Please see the Gentoo Linux 2004.0 for x86 release notes at
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/
The bootable install LiveCDs can be found in the livecd/universal/ directory.
Of the two bootable install LiveCDs available, the
install-x86-universal-2004.0.iso allows a network install using the on-disc
stage1 tarball, or an optimized stage3 install using one of the on-disc stage3
tarballs (stage3 tarballs for x86, i686, pentium3, pentium4 and athlon-xp are
included on this disc.) In addition, the necessary sources are included to
install Gentoo from a stage3 (but not stage1) *without* a network connection.
The install-x86-minimal-2004.0.iso is just the bootable part of the LiveCD.
Use it to boot your system and start a network-based install.
The ISO images found in the livecd/x86/, livecd/i686/, livecd/pentium3/,
livecd/pentium4/ and livecd/athlon-xp/ directories (named
"packages-<subarch>-2004.0.iso") are not bootable but are filled with pre-built
binary packages, including KDE, GNOME, XFCE4, OpenOffice.org, Mozilla, Mozilla
Firefox, XFree86 and many more. Use one of these CDs (choose one appropriate to
your architecture) to set up a graphical workstation quickly.
We hope you enjoy Gentoo Linux 2004.0 for x86!
Looks like the universal cd must have the required stuff, but i just couldn't emerge genkernel and the sources. |
