I'm confuse here, after reading the instructions on installing the gentoo base system it talks about GRP copying the GRP Packages how would you do that with cd1 in the system without umounting cd1 or rebooting the system. the instrctions talkes about alt-2 to copy the files
2nd how would you then emerge the packages on cd2 using GRP. may be i just don't understand the reading and the english.
I'm going to be installing this on a brand new spanky AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "BARTON" 400 FSB, 512K cach processors --oem |

Everything you need to fully install Gentoo, including installing a kernel, is on the first CD.
You only need the second CD when you have a working Gentoo system and want to install XFree and/ or KDE/Gnome.
So no, you can't and shouldn't unmount the first CD until you've completed the primary install.
To emerge the binary packages that come with the GRP install you have to use the portage snapshot that's on the CD - do not run emerge sync!
Then you can install any of the packages on the first or second CD by using
Code: | emerge --usepkgonly <packagename> |
Note again: if you run emerge sync while trying to do a GRP install all the remaining packages will be useless. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /
