First, welcome to everyone who has an interest in Gentoo on the AMD64 platform!

The Gentoo/AMD64 Development Team has worked hard to put together a stable Gentoo port for the AMD64 platform. However, with any new technology, there are pitfalls and gotchas. The Gentoo/AMD64 Development Team has created documentation that everyone should read before they begin their installation. That documentation is called the Gentoo/AMD64 Installation Technotes.

The Gentoo/AMD64 Installation Technotes are where the development team keeps track of known issues with hardware and deviations from the standard installation instructions in the Gentoo Installation Handbook.

READ THE TECHNOTES! If you spend any time in the #gentoo-amd64 IRC channel, you will hear that common mantra. Why are they so important? Well, here's a quick list of some of the issues the technotes discuss:

supported kernel sources
kernel options required for some motherboards
Setting Your CFLAGS correctly

32-bit Compatibility
