|

For the 3rd time, I'm going through the make dep make clean etc. and I get the following error:
/usr/src/linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r1/include/linux/kernel_stat.h:46: for each function it appears in)
make[2]: *** [ksyms.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r1/kernel'
make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r1/kernel'
make: *** [_dir_kernel] Error 2
I can't make a bzImage. I've tried to configure the kernel using the /linux and /linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r1( since the source in /linux wouldn't work) as source. I'm able to boot off the cd and give grub parameters in order to boot, however the 2 previous times actually ended up with a bzImage and moved it to the boot folder: it boots then restarts 2 seconds later, everytime. I'm installing this on a Compaq Presario 710 laptop (Via chipset, I think a 82c686 Southbridge, Duron processor, don't have it handy). I've followed directions to the letter, and tried to install using a stage1, then stage3 the next time.
Oh yeah, I have the laptop partitioned with /boot as hda2, /root on my extended partition as hda6, and my swap is hda5. I also have 2 extra, 1 for Windows hda1, and storage hda7. The ID's are right, and /boot starts at sector 765. Any idea's of what this error could be? What extra info could I post that could help solve this problem? Thanks to anyone that tries.

this error i think revolves around a redefinition of smp for the system are you compiling this with smp enabled ...is this a multi-poccessor system. |

While compiling the kernel I removed the option for SMP support. I do have module support enabled in the kernel. Would removing SMP cause this perhaps? |

I have the same problem, and it occured removing smp support. The frustrating thing is that I've essentially removed everything in an attempt to get a bzImage that's "small" enough to even boot. |

Thanks for the help. Re-enabling SMP support took care of the problem, go figure . |
