(GRUB) unable to boot windows, fdisk /mbr no effect

hello,

I just installed Gentoo (stage2, athlonxp), and now I have a problem booting windows (xp, fat32) from grub, I tried fdisk /mbr, and it has no effect, grub still starts.

there were some strange things:
fdisk "v" gives 248 unallocated sectors
cfdisk gives an error about partition ordering

I then tried dd if=... of=... bs=446 count =1 from another xp machine, but this didn't work either, seemingly, but now the entire partition table is messed up, really bad

help me please, i'm stuck!

Can you please post your grub.conf and your /etc/fstab (or tell us your partitions types and mount points)?
