what is RAS with regards to the cpu

ive seen the term RAS appiled to the highend cpus like itanic/power and planned for opterons, im just wondering what it is, all searches seem to result in russion sites or charts mentioning it but not explaining, i dont even know what it stand for.

this was the last artical i read mentioning it(mostly in passing), im pretty interested in cpu design and arcutectures, i probably spotted it on a couple of the newsgroups also.
