|
|
hi everybody!
i have a problem installing gentoo on my Athlon XP 1900+.
during bootstrap there always occurs the same error when compiling glibc!
i downloaded and installed memtest86 and in test #5 and #6 it found 1188 errors!!!
could it be that i always get these errors because i use 2 256 MB PC266 RAMs and 1 256 MB PC400 RAM and my motherboard and processor is only PC266?
i got no errors and my gentoo install worked properly until i used the PC400 RAM!
My last system is gone now and i am not able to install it again. That's makin' me crazy.
Please help me? _________________ The generation of random numbers is too important to be left to chance.

potatoface,
The differing memory module speeds could well be your problem.
Some motherboards read the memory settings off of each stick an apply them independently. some brain dead BIOSes only read the timings for the first memory stick and apply that to all the memory.
Now, if your fast memory is the one being read, the other twi sticks my well fail.
Try removing the fast stick and running memtest again.
Try moving the memory around (put the fast stick in a different slot) and run mem test again.
512Mb is plenty of memory for a Gentoo install anyway. _________________ Regards,
