I just recently purchased one of these modems myself. I was able to get the drivers installed and can talk to the device using minicom, but when it tries to reset the modem i get a seg fault. I got this modem because of the cheap price and voice support. My plan is to try and use this as an answering machine. When I try and run vgetty, it also fails due to a seg fault.

I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but hopefully i'll be able to figure it out.

what kind of problems are you having?

Is that a serial line modem (external and connected to a COM port on your PC)?

Your modem should come with drivers. You unpack them and then do
make clean
make 536ep
It will make two .o files. Then you need to write a boot script, for that read README file.

Hi,

my modem is a creatix v9x with this 536ep chipset. I got the drivers from Intel which should only work under 2.4 kernels. As deadg69 I'm able to use minicom to communicate with the modem and I'm even able to make a ppp connection to my ISP. Unfortunately the connection works only for about a minute. With
Code:
ifconfig
I check for the remote-ip and try to ping it, but nothing goes through anymore.

I already tried to switch back to V34 (33000 bps) with:
Code:
at+ms=v34,1,0,0

in order to avoid possible phone line problems with the 56k speed, but nothing changes. I can ping any intenet ip, but after a while nothing gets through anymore. While the modem doesn't disconnect the line.

Any ideas?

This drivers do not work properly on linux-2.4.22+.
I tried many times and they still do not work. They don't give any warnings... strange :(

I'm using 2.4.20-gentoo-r5 and the drivers don't work. Perhaps there is a certain kernel feature we could turn off/on to get it work.

After digging in some mailing lists I found a solution for my problem with the 536ep modem.
I downloaded the 4.60-1 driver version from Intel (check additional downloads on the nav-bar) and it seems to work. Currently I'm using V32 but today I'll try to switch back to 56k.

An other information I got from the mailing list was that the IRQ density could be a problem for the new driver. One guy switched off his USB-Ports in the BIOS. Therefore the modem haven't had to share IRQ with something else and worked perfectly.
