Can't become su and any suggestion setting up a mx700 ?

I can't become su in console. I have to fill in the root password, but it doesn't exxecpt it.
But I'm 100 percent shure I filled it in correctly.
And anywone having suggedstions how to set up a mx700 mouse to worl with 8 buttons again ... ?

I'm not sure about the extra buttons.

To allow yourself to become su, add yourself to the 'wheel' group again. You probably overwrote /etc/group. Be careful with etc-update.
