Why I don't have to copy System.map to boot according to the installation guide when I am using an amd64 machine?

Thank you. There are so many tutorials in the internet and each one makes other suggestions.
But I have another problem: my system hangs sometimes on boot after following line without any error message:

Code:
Calculating module depedencies . . .

Then I press the hardware reset button and everything is ok. Strange, isn't it?
Has anybody an idea?
