I'm considering an AMD-64 in the very near term as my primary machine. I gather that some major apps such as OpenOffice need either careful building or a special binary build to work on the platform at the present time.
Can any current AMD-64 Gentoo users give me a heads-up on essential productivity applications that a Gnome user/python developer might still have trouble during the next two months or so, or a pointer to a list of such app statuses? For example, how far away are we from source builds of openoffice and ximian-openoffice?
And with the majority of the packages having no "AMD-64" indication as yet, does that mean that they won't work, or just aren't tested because few users have reported results yet?
I guess I'm just looking for a qualitative answer to the question of whether to put the old P4 laptop on ebay just yet or not |
