Monolithic kernel and initrd ...

I'm trying to compile kernel with gentoo ... but unfortunately starting from stage1 ... I'm able to compile but I'm not guided in placing initrd in grub.conf

The system halts in kernel panic for not findind init.

I need to place Compaq Raid modules there; do you know how to proceed, which program to use?

I just noticed that the command emerge mkinitrd in order to emerge program to create init images just doesn't work.

A bug has been opened since last January on this: if anyone has any other viable solution in order to get a initrd image up ...
