3) When I was booted from the dist CD, my mouse would work, even though the pages were all text based.
i.e. I could select text, right click to paste etc.
Now that I am booted from the configured kernel, the mouse does not work at all. Is this normal? Do I need another term package to make the mouse work?
(I am not running X yet)

Try emerging gpm, and then edit the /etc/conf.d/gpm, just uncomment the lines
Code: |
MOUSE=ps2
MOUSEDEV=/dev/psaux
|
if your mouse is PS/2, or uncomment the lines
Code: |
MOUSE=imps2
MOUSEDEV=/dev/input/mice
|
If your mouse is usb. After that start the console mouse service by executing
Code: | /etc/init.d/gpm start |
|
