I have been trying to do a stage1 install, but I get stuck after the kernel part of the installation, I have not done a 2.6 kernel before so I am a little confused! Please help!

Could someone tell me all the steps to the correct way to install the kernel.

emerge gentoo-dev-sources
cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig
make
make install
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage /boot
