|
|
hi all,
i'm trying to upgrade mplayer from 0.91 to either 0.92 or 1.0pre3, but after emerge downloads the tar.bz2 file, it fails the digest check. i've tried deleting the downloaded distfiles so that emerge would re-download the file. that didn't solve it. i then tried removing the entire media-video/mplayer/ directory so that emerge sync would get new copies of the digest files, but that also didn't resolve the issue.
i've searched the forums and bugzilla, but there don't seem to be any other reports of this problem. does anybody have a suggestion of something i could be doing wrong? or has anybody else had this issue?
thanks,
ryan |

how about if you go to http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design6/dload.html download the source and follow the install instructions as follows (also in README):
Code: | su (using ur root password)
./configure
make
make install

that did it at my linux, i was not satisfied after emerging it (couples of errors,...) _________________ Mess with the best, die like the rest. |

because i'd rather use portage where i can. it's a pain to download and compile source by hand because it takes more of my time (usually... although with the number of errors i get using portage on a regular basis this may not be true), and i wouldn't have an easy way to remove/upgrade packages |

sure, but it is a temporary work around, until the portage stuff (mplayer) works again
I also had some problems as I have already said, although it is not a handy work around.
Anyway for me it worked _________________ Mess with the best, die like the rest. |

i guess i could compile it from source, then later when portage works and i install it from portage, it would just overwrite the manual source compilation right? or does portage put the binaries and things in different directories? i just don't want "dirty up" my system by having a bunch of programs installed in different places that i can never really clean off.... |

if you want to "uninstall" it, then simply do the following:
(of course in the directory of your extracted source code, e.g. /home/*/MPlayer*)
and if you even want to remove the binaries from this directory,
when you want to compile it again later, do the following:
if the problem with portage is solved, you can remove this directory,
