Gnome/Nvidia problems after 'emerge -u system'

Hi, im trying to convert from windows -> gentoo, so.. treat me nice.

ok.. i got it all up 'n running.. kernel 2.6.2 then i emerge -u system and overwrote all my configs. Not very good.. i got most of em working again but i still cant start x.

First i got an error about not being able to set page something on memory 0xD0000000 to 0xsomeother_address.. but now it just scrambles my screen..

At some point i got a message about /dev/nvidiactl not being found. I managed to fix this with emerge nvidia-kernel and some conf-editing. I've tried XF86Config several times but nothing gets better. I cant find anything in other configs.

If i start mplayer i can se movies just fine so i think its just x that is at fault.

I have a Geforce4 MX440 64Mb AGP x4 card. Nvidia and nvidia-agp modules loads just fine.
