|
|
Hi all. I'm currently running an IBM Thinkpad.
I currently have to leave net.eth0 off on boot. If my NIC is not connected to a network with DHCP it takes forever to time out.
I'd like to have eth0 start up automatically, and get an IP automatically. Is there anyway to avoid dhcpcd from holding up the boot process?
Thanks,

dhcpcd per default uses a timeout of 60 seconds. you can adjust /etc/init.d/net.eth0 to include a parameter like "-t 10" for dhcpcd to set the timeout to ten seconds. |

To change the dhcp-timeout is IMHO a bad idea, because there are some large networks where it can take some time to get an IP. And second: even 10s are 9sec too much.
I suggest using ifplugd, it monitors your NIC and if you connect a cable it will automaticaly setup your interface... ![Smile :-)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

ifplugd is exactly what I was looking for.
Sidenote: If you can't get an IP via DHCP in under 10 seconds than you need to step back and evaluate your network. ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Tell your ISP to support SPF/SASL AUTH (http://spf.pobox.com) today! |
