|
|
hey, im trying to fix my gentoo install, and i need to load the smp kernel to do it... anyways, i have a raided system, and when i boot into the gentoo kernel on the livecd i can start my raids no problem and mount them and its perfect, but when i use smp i cant start them because its not reading the (i think 2nd) harddrive saying its not loading!! if this was a raid1 setup i could just use one of the disks and fix it but its raid0 and i need that other disk going; i KNOW its not a problem with my disks because like i said when i used gentoo i could do it perfect (but like i also said i cant use it for a reason)... so any ideas? i need to use this computer tonight and i really dont feel like using my other shite winblows box |

dont see how this will help, but i guess you want to know my harddrives... 2 hitachi 80gb sata-150's theres no problems with them because like i said theyre perfect when i load the livecd with gentoo kernel... but i need that damn smp kernel (becuase my kernel was compiled with nptrl) |

why dont you boot into gentoo kernel livecd and then do an lsmod (or whatever you do to get the module info on your devices), then reboot and do the same thing on your smp livecd boot, and see what is different... _________________ DELL INSPIRON 5150 (2004)

ummm... and the difference would be what exactly?? it has nothing to do with any modules, in both kernels they can see the disks just fine and read like i already said, its when i try to raid the to disks together in the smp kernel is where it doesnt want to work with the 2nd disk... |

you need to work out what the difference is between the gentoo (2.4) kernel and the smp (2.6) kernel with the raid settings... find a machine and do a make menuconfig with both kernels and see what is different, or you could seach on google for a breakdown of what is in the menuconfg.... i guess.
sorry i cant help, i dont know much about raid stuff. _________________ DELL INSPIRON 5150 (2004)
