|
|
When I am not in x I can login as root and when I am logged in as a user I can su to root. But when I am in x (fluxbox) I can't su to root or login as root.
This is the error I get with su:
Code: | su
Password:
su: Authentication failure
Sorry. |
This is the error when I login as root:
Code: | FATAL: cannot change permissions of TTY: Operation not permitted |
I read the forums and faqs but in the forums the solution is being a member of the weel group, I am a member of the wheel group. I used the search option for su and x but in none of the post was the answer
HELP
David

This thread seems to suggest it IS answered in the FAQ.

Sorry but I have really read all the faqs and threads but the answer is not in it. I had already read the faq of your link. The answer in the faq was that you need to be a member of the weel group and/or that you need to change the file permisions of /bin/su
I'm a member of the weel group, I used this codes:
Code: | usermod -G users,wheel,audio username |
Code: | groups
users wheel audio |
I have the correct file permisions:
Code: | ls -l /bin/su
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 24312 Feb 19 00:09 /bin/su |
Also in the source of this faq I can't find a answer.
I appologize for posting in the wrong forum.I did searche for faqs and threads, as I told in my post my answer is not in it. I understand that you think that I am another noob who does not takes the time to searche but that is not true. My problem is different from the problems in a lot of threads, I can su but I cannot su in x. roelio_ had the same problem as me so thanks for the link but his answer does not work for me.
Does anyone knows the answer at my well known quastion?
Thansk in advance,
David |

The passwords are case sensitive, could that possibly be the problem? |

I am sure I use the correct password because I can login as root when I am not in x. By the way my password is numbers only
Yes I did already read that thread, I already tried
But this does not work too, but thanks for the link. |
