Ok specs
Athlon XP 2500+
A7N8X delux rev 2
1024mb 3200ddr
1 x 120gb WD 7200RPM 8mb Cache SATA
1 x 30gb Maxtor 7200RPM
When i boot the live cd and try to fdisk /dev/hda
it errors out, somthing along the lines of "unable to acces /dev/hda"
i also tried to fdisk my scsi drive nothing
when i boot the live cd i do see it detecting both my hardrives, but i cant fdisk them
in windows I can see the drive in disk management, add partitions remove partitions whatever
any ideas, my guess is its somthing to do with the chipset for sata. or maybe something im missing that i need to do to be using both sata and IDE |

Check this thread out:

Looks like another person had a similar problem and seems to have somewhat solved it. Hope that link helps. Apparently you have to modprobe the kernel module for your sata drivers once you're booted. |

If you have a SATA the drive is located at /dev/hde. And fdisk is so impersonal try cfdisk it makes partitioning much much easyer. |
