When emerging kde, I get this error and I'm not sure what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it helps, I'm using genkernel after unsuccessfully compiling my own kernel.
Code: |

make: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/svgalib-1.9.17-r3/work/svgalib-1.9.17/kernel/svgalib_helper'

If you plan to really use SVGALib, it needs the Linux kernel headers in order to build. These can be installed by issuing:
Code: | emerge linux-headers |
If you don't have a specific need for SVGALib (it isn't nececary when you're just going to use X), you could consider adding "-svga" to your USE flags. _________________ Gentoo's kind community

Thanks, that fixed the problem. Got a lot farther and then ran into a similar problem...
Code: |
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdegraphics-3.2.0/work/kdegraphics-3.2.0/kpdf/kpdf'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdegraphics-3.2.0/work/kdegraphics-3.2.0/kpdf'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdegraphics-3.2.0/work/kdegraphics-3.2.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2
!!! ERROR: kde-base/kdegraphics-3.2.0 failed.
!!! Function kde_src_compile, Line 128, Exitcode 2
!!! died running emake, kde_src_compile:make

Any ideas? |

Well, it's not enough of the error message to tell you what went wrong... Could you paste a bigger cut of it? _________________ Gentoo's kind community

I figured it out, searched the forums more on that problem and it turns out I had to switch to "-j1". KDE is now successfully installed, but I can't seem to get KDM to start. I haven't had hardly any time to spend on it though, so it's probably a quick fix |
